Honoring Francis "Dick" Scobee
Francis "Dick" Scobee was a NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force pilot, best known as the commander of the Space Shuttle Challenger on its ill-fated STS-51-L mission in 1986. A native of Auburn, Washington, Scobee's remarkable career spanned service as a combat aviator in Vietnam and as an accomplished test pilot before joining NASA's space program. To honor his legacy and inspire future generations, Auburn Airport commissioned a mural celebrating Scobee's life and contributions to aviation and space exploration. The mural stands as a poignant tribute to his courage, dedication, and enduring impact on the aerospace community.
